hell and holocausts

my heart
someone has attacked my heart
i reach into my chest
retrieve my heart
but it's not my heart at all
not really
instead of seeing a vivid
scarlet organ completely
ready and willing to give
itself away as before
i am faced with a
blackened.
twisted.
frozen.
metal.
mess.
oh it's my heart
im positive
but this heart has been
through hell and holocausts
and it's been sustaining my life?
interesting, i think as
i return my heart
to its resing place
