&quot;Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don&#039;t matter and those who matter don&#039;t mind&quot;<br /> -Dr. Seuss

I stand
Face straining upwards
Laughing mouth wide open
Trying to taste the sunlight.
People look and wonder
But I don’t care.
Life is an experience.
Have they ever felt the world?
I doubt it.
Have you ever really listened to a sound?
The sound of the wind
Through dried leaves
Is like the bristles of a soft hair brush
Against my cheek
Have you ever truly felt something?
The feeling in my fingers
Running softly across
The keys on my computer
Is like the sound of a piccolo;
smooth yet firm.
Have you ever stopped to think
Of every day as a work of art;
Simply an elaborate collage
Of emotions?

The author's comments:
I've noticed that people with autism often have a heightened sense of the world around them. I wanted to capture the beautiful side of this and what it might be like to experience the world in this way.
