the soldier
I once met a solider who misses his family and home
But still he stands hard as stone
In his camouflage uniform
Bound by the oath he’s sworn
To protect our nation
He sees it as an invitation
To help his country win a war
To honor all those that served before
He doesn’t fight for glory
Doesn’t need the world to know his story
He believes in honor and integrity
And every mans right to be free
He’s courageous and acts as brave as he can
But this place is enough to scare any man
And no matter how much he tries
He can’t stop the tears that he sometimes cries
When he wonders if this is where it ends
And remembers his fallen friends
But he just gets back to work, no time to sit around
He says a prayer as he picks his gun up from the ground
He laces his boots up tight
And stands ready for a fight
With his crew cut hair
And a determined stare
The cocky way he holds his gun
He’s never doubted this war could be won
