Tear filled eyes
I look at her
With her bruised and dirty face
The only thing I could think
The question that haunted my mind
Was why
Why would someone do this
How someone could hurt an innocent child
Who could harm their won beautiful little girl
Where was everyone while she was hurting
As my thoughts continued on
I notice my reflection in her tear filled eyes
And as I tore my eyes from hers I thought
What could I have done to stop this
When will children be loved for all that they are
And cherished for all they will be
As tears fell down my face I made a silent vow
Today
Today would be the day the pain ends
People ask me why I became a cop
And I tell them that story
I say that some measure their lives in money
But I measure min the tears that no longer fall from that little girl’s eyes
