Smiles, Friendship and Tears
I call you, the dial tone ringing in my ear.
Your voice I know so well vibrates in my core.
We talk for 32 minutes.
It's sad that I'm counting.
It just happened, I don't know why.
I'm setting myself up for heartbreak. Why did I not learn anything the last time?
He trampled on my heart and haunted my dreams, filled all my tears and was the source of my screams.
But you were in the wings, just being my friend.
Do I have a sickness that makes me latch onto you?
I shake my head after I hang up. Our talks are always filled with my sarcasm, and you soft laughs. The smiles in the hallways, the inside jokes before class.
I can't concentrate when you smile at me.
But I know you graduate this year, and then it will all be over.
The sky is gray, like our futures. We have no idea what's behind the clouds, whether it be sun or storm, but one thing's for sure.
However we end, friend or lover, you were the one who put me back together.
So thanks.
