A Puppy's Promise
I'm a black, lonely puppy
with nobody to call my own
I was taken to the shelter
because I was no longer a friend
but I promise when I get out
I'll no longer pee on the floor
or eat your old shoe
I promise, I promise
to obey you
They said black wasn't in fashion
They said that black was too bad
but I am a good dog
and promise to do no wrong
Someone came up to me
to give me a pat
They said I was no longer worthy
and that I will get gased
I guessed it was true
but I promised and promised
to be true to you!
Early in the morning
they took me to a room
I was to lie down
and to obey
while they gased me
I floated away
I promise, I promise
to be always so true
to be your best friend
and not eat your shoes
to love you forever
and not get tough
for I am a dog
and will never give up
The man that I saw
was so gentle and sweet
and I promised those words
to him and to me
