True Self
She slides on her Levis
and buttons up her shirt.
puts on her boots
and sticks a knife on her belt.
as she walks at the door,
she grabs her hat.
her thick, velvety, black hat.
within seconds
she has transformed
right before my eyes
into a true blue country girl.
she seems more at home with this look,
more like herself.
the look suits her,
looks natural.
she likes what she sees
as she looks in the mirror.
then she's out the door
and on her way
to go experience the joys
of another country day.
