You were always ment to be my harmony
You were meant to be my harmony.
Never content to be on the same note
Always insisting on being three steps above me
But we were beautiful together
You were meant to be in the spotlight
You felt it hid the darkness
You carried inside
But it would sometimes
Seep out when you sang
It was tied in pretty bows
Around every note
That tip toed over your tongue
And it was still beautiful
But you thought the best music we made
Was when your lips
Played on mine
You said it was your favorite harmony
And I always knew
That the sound of my hands walking across your skin
Was my favorite symphony
So as tightly as you wrapped your arms around me
I wrapped my troubles around the steel strings of your guitar
And together we watched the sound
Wave them into silence
I’ve spilled my soul onto your hands
And you picked the pieces out
on your guitar
And handed me back yours
In the shape of notes
We attempted to make beauty out of music
But we ended up making music out of beauty
So now I can’t stand to sing alone
Because you were always meant to be my harmony
