The Fight
I fight the monster with all my might,
We struggle like baby birds fighting over the last worm.
Its fiery breath aimed at me, it misses by a small distance.
Pebbles I throw, but it’s no use.
The monster is stronger than I, I have no doubt.
But I have something it lacks, intelligence.
I cannot outrun it; I cannot beat it with my strength.
Yet I am smarter, I just need a plan.
If I can stun if for just a few seconds, I will have time to take cover.
You wonder how much longer, it shouldn’t be long.
You wait for the end, but it doesn’t come.
I catapult a large twig, but the dragon doesn’t budge.
I try again, this time it flinches.
A third time, it moves away swiftly.
I make a run for it; take cover behind a broad tree trunk.
I have won this battle,
But it always wins the war.
