Haiti (2)
…and on the beach,
The ruins of the beach,
The sun torn and tattered,
Strewn,
Hurled on the ground,
Destroyed
The sun wept,
Golden the sun wept
As the tide went in,
As the tide went out,
As it washed the bodies,
As it washed the blood,
Eyes closed,
Closed,
Tight,
Eyes not to see no more.
Cold against the ground,
Cold morning,
Cold day,
Mist grey & dying,
Dying grey & pale,
Bony ‘neath a wall,
Dry & gone,
Dry,
Alone,
Motherless,
Fatherless,
Brotherless,
Sisterless,
Countryless,
Nameless,
A dot on a page,
A number on a computer,
A zero,
A one,
A cipher the less,
A number to be used,
To be televised,
Another tear from a stranger,
Another crying foreign man,
Another story on the news,
A thousand more newspapers,
A hundred thousand more viewers,
A million more bucks
And only one nameless,
One dead,
Alive,
No longer adopted,
Scratched,
Gone,
Dead,
Bye bye.
Going, gone,
Somewhere, nowhere,
In the North just another figure,
In the South another hope,
Una esperanza,
Vivo,
Alive,
Somewhere,
They look for him,
For his tiny bones & eyes,
Their ears against the pavement,
They seek for him,
Waiting for his cry,
All he has,
All he sees,
All he hears,
Black shadows,
Black cries,
Black daylight,
Black night,
Black,
All there is here,
All he has,
Black,
Black & dying,
Crumbling,
Tearing him apart.
Black is
Shattering,
Crackling,
Breaking
All around him,
Somewhere
Someone’s
Shaking,
Screaming,
Pleading,
Praying,
Breathing,
Beating,
Talking,
Moaning,
Somewhere
Someone’s
Hoping,
Hope,
Esperanza,
Vivo.
Black is
Smothering,
Hope is
Soothing.
Black is
Dead,
Hope is
Alive.
Somewhere on the earth,
Somewhere someone’s hoping,
Somewhere deep inside,
Somewhere they’re calling,
Somewhere outside,
Somewhere they are answering,
Somewhere there’s a mother,
Somewhere there’s his son,
Somewhere they’re singing,
He’s alive!
He’s alive!
