Lonely Knights
The crickets chirp,
a summer lullaby.
The stars wink,
little trinkets of light.
I'm sitting on the roof.
Looking out into the night.
Looking out into life.
The days are getting longer,
the nights quite shorter.
Insomnia gives me the joy
of being lonely tonight.
The last lights blink out
from that house
down the street.
Now it's just me,
and life.
I sit there pondering
what a joke my life has been.
The many wishes I have made
that still float around in my brain.
Right here,
right now
I am alone.
And I start to wonder
if there are some like I
who sit on their roofs,
and look at the night sky.
Are there more lonely knights like I?
