Untitled #113
A single line stands,
Alone on the page;
A single man stands,
The only surviving soldier.
The ghosts always
Haunt, taunt.
Why didn’t you
Just finish me off?
Write the last line,
Kill the last soldier.
Finish the poem
With no title
Finish the war
With no victor!
There is no title,
There is no victor.
There is only the
Single line, the single soldier.
The soldier fights,
The poem standing, unwritten.
The poet fights the poem,
O! how the soldier
Is defeated!
The words were there,
But now
