The City
As the city burns, I stand and watch the glow. The intense heat radiates from the blaze and warms my skin. It’s beautiful… Roaming the streets I observe the skeletal remains of civilization; of people and buildings alike, charred black from the embers. The air is putrid. Ash and smoke fills the sky. I am all that remains in this place. Alone with my thoughts and the bodies. This used to be my home, and I guess at a technical standpoint it still is, but I want to be with my family and friends, and their gone now. Tears start to stream down my face as I lift my last cigarette to my lips. My lungs are once again filled with poison, and I love it. A grin forms as familiarity flows in with the smoke. Now, once again I find myself wandering towards the part of the city that is still ignited. Only to view its beauty once more.
