The truth hurts

You make me feel guilty,
For telling you the truth; I thought I was doing the right thing, starting out being honest with you.
But I guess I was wrong because now you’re gone,
I should have known it all along.
I thought you said you were different now,
Not like you used to be.
You promised me you wouldn’t leave,
You’d stay with me no matter what;
That you have changed and weren’t like that anymore. (?)
Well I guess you’ll have to prove that to me,
Because what I see is no different than what you’ve always been,
And probably will ever be.
