protecting love
By night we were mere humans
Separated by circumstance
Resting and waiting to see one another again
But by dawn we walked like jackals
Firm in our place
Protective of our love
We wouldn’t let anyone intervene
With jackal language
They would try to bring us down
Judging, assuming
All the while they knew nothing of our love
Or how hard we would fight to stay together
But we knew all along
Nothing and no one could break this bond
