Just to See You Smile
I see pain cross your face.
A memory, perhaps,
Tearing itself through
The edges of your mind.
A ragged breath escapes
Your parted crimson lips.
I watch as a tear wells
Along your lashes,
Yet, no saltwater drips
Down from its abode.
In a struggle to help,
I lean across you,
Lifting your downturned head
With a gentle finger.
My lips mold themselves
To your soft rosebuds,
And I press deeper,
Then release quickly
And look into your eyes.
I give you a light kiss
On the tip of your nose
Just to see you smile.
