I see pain cross your face.
A memory, perhaps,
Tearing itself through
The edges of your mind.
A ragged breath escapes
Your parted crimson lips.
I watch as a tear wells
Along your lashes,
Yet, no saltwater drips
Down from its abode.
In a struggle to help,
I lean across you,
Lifting your downturned head
With a gentle finger.
My lips mold themselves
To your soft rosebuds,
And I press deeper,
Then release quickly
And look into your eyes.
I give you a light kiss
On the tip of your nose
Just to see you smile.

The author's comments:
I wrote this piece in a challenge for another writing group I'm a part of. The challenge was to put your iPod or music player on shuffle, and name of the next song played had to be used in the poem. My shuffle took me to "Just to See You Smile" by Tim McGraw.
