Beginning
A thing within a thing,
An animal within another
Growth
Days turn to weeks, weeks to months
Though this time is idle, seemingly petty,
Unseen, a great transformation occurs, like of seed to flower
Departure
Panic!--Enthrallment!--Frenzy!--Excitement!
Shock sharpens details--
The roaring engine,
The overly bright fluorescent lights,
The cheerful prattle of a dimpled nurse,
Struggle
Liking to linger longer
A great quake arises--this desire dissolves
Abruptly forced out of first home
Release
Eyes slapped by foreign light
Ears bombarded with new, frightening noise
Startled--and bawling summarily
Carried off, cleaned, bedded, named
Life has begun
