She Is Broken
The twinkle of the lights
And the pull of the ocean
Cannot drag away her pain,
She’s looks to the sky
She cries,
She is broken …
She walks down the road
Her feet dragging slow
Her head hanging down
And low to the ground
She is grateful
She is alone …
Her hands tuck inside her coat
One arm almost completely numb
The soft spots of the bruises
Still lingering on her arms
With purple and blue dotting
She saw stars …
She breathes and breathes
But that does not assuage
The danger and pain she faces every day
She hides in fear
She wishes she were dead …
The rays of the sun
And the sway of the breeze
Cannot shackle her ankles
And keep her feet planted to the ground
She finds the ground
She lays there,
She is broken …
