The Calamity
October 9, 2006, the day all hell broke loose.
The day we brought, what we thought was a dog, home
Embarrassment: supposed to be cute, small, smart, and quiet.
This dog, none those things.
This dog, calamity we call Huey.
Airplanes fly over-head,
People talk, move about,
All wait for their dogs,
Families admire their “real dogs”,
We could do nothing but
Stare at
The calamity we call Huey.
I opened the crate,
A small, black, rump roast
Stared back at me
With his big, beady eyes
He was timid in his crate,
This was not the calamity we call Huey.
A few days of being cute,
“It” decided to take a fall,
THUD.
He was okay, but that was the day he became
And will forever be known as
The calamity we call Huey.
