Under the Old Oak Tree
I needed no moonlight to see her eyes that night.
Under the old oak tree we laid holding each other so close.
Lost in soothing embrace, intimacy grew deeper as the moments passed by.
Though only a short amount of time to spend together, we stayed happily lost within each other.
Illuminated by nothing more than starlight and lamps on the street corner, we made the night seem like it would last forever.
We closed our eyes and shared a kiss,
then smiled so sweetly.
Two shell-encased hearts found each other that night.
Through affection and connection they cracked each other’s shells revealing the scared and vulnerable hearts that had been kept inside.
And so the two hearts sat face to face wondering if they were safe.
Only to soon realize one was just as vulnerable as the other.
So with fear of pain apparent yet hidden they bond and combine to form one life.
Closer they became while under the tree that night
and learned to trust and love once again.
No more fear or regret of falling for the now-healing hearts they saw before them.
Three sweet words were finally spoken that induced an innocent smile.
But when the time came for the tree to be abandoned and the embrace to be broken,
we despaired not for we knew we would again see our love.
Under the tree that night I remembered what it felt like to fall in love again without fear.
Finally I had managed to find the soft-hearted girl I had been frantically searching for.
Under the tree we loved.
Under the tree we kissed.
Under the tree we connected.
We shared no regrets or remorse,
for we now know we are safe in each other’s arms.
