I am From
I am from soccer games on freezing November Days
From days dreaming of bigger things I didn't understand yet
From dreams of flying planes all over the world
From a family who always gives me encouragement
From two brothers who think I might be insane
From "Are You my Mother"
I am from too many days wasting time
From frineds who have the same crazy ideas I do
From summer days in over chlorinated pools
From visits to my grandparents that are never long enough
From a house with a comfortably musty smell
I am from amazing homemade cooking
From steamy fried rice with eggs and onions
From chicken thighs, grilled perfectly in tangy sesame sauce
From long plane flights to the American West
From nights sweating over the next day
From straight A's and hidden B's
All these things make me who I am
But they're like a kaleidoscope most of the time
The photoshop in my head tints them many colors
The distort them in and out of focus, accentuating the bizarre
The things I thought I'd remember come up once in a while
But the mundane and the random are always true memories
