The Silent Bang
Sweating, scared, and secluded he awakes
He looks around the room, there is nothing but shadows
He lies awake holding his arms
He listens to the crash of now broken pots and priceless china
They hit the door with the force of stray bullets
The screams are sharp to his ears as he awakes for school
He puts on the tattered and torn clothes from yesterday
He slumps his head down and walks toward the closet
He picks up the object, and sharply shoves it into his knapsack
He walks out the door making sure he isn’t seen
He takes one last look back at the broken down door
He listens to his mothers screams
He hopes that just this once she would stop him
He looks to the ground with tears in his eyes
He walks to a nearby alley
He can’t the stand the neglect any longer
He pulls the object out
He looks at it with shame in his eyes
He takes a deep breath
And puts it to his head.
