These children of Ink,
Messengers of death,
Carrying sorrow on their wings,
Fear on their breath.
Blood on their beaks,
Bones in their claws,
Eliciting loud shrieks,
With soft, gentle, “caws.”

Whether flocking in murders
Or murdering in flocks,
Their coal wings glint,
And their black eyes mock.
Beware these stony-eyed beasts
Answer not their call,
For if you dare,
Hard shall you fall.
Warn your neighbors against them
For we all know
Nothing is deadlier
Than a murder of crows.

The author's comments:
This poem was mostly inspired by another poem I heard from my friend. I believe it's by Charles deLinley? It's about crows, and my friend Sam loves crows. This poem is for her.

I love crows as well, and I love the description of them in the first stanza. I think a great job with the rhythm of this poem, it is very pleasant to read it outloud. And I love the powerful ending!

Thank you, the poem it was inspired by actually discusses the symbol crows show. "One crow sorrow, Two crows mirth, Three crows a wedding, Four crows a birth, Five crows silver, Six crows gold, Seven crows a secret, Which must never be told."

Amazing... I love how the crows are described as murderers, that goes along well with the fact that crows are the symbol of death in some cultures..
