"When I was a Child"
When I was a child,
 I played with my toys
 each and every day.
But then came a day when I realized
It was time to put all childish things away.

I had risen with the risen sun
When my mother came to me
To say, “My child, it is time
 To let you be.”

 Imagine my shock
 When I found out
That my life would be taking
 A perilous route.

As a child, I smiled and danced,
 And was so carefree!
But as a young woman, I struggle
 Oh, woe is me!

 Don’t get me wrong;
 My struggle is my prize.
And if you don’t believe me
 Look into my eyes.

And you’ll see a young woman
 Who is waiting to be
 On top in this world
 Just by being me.
