The Final Goodbye
Her frosted gaze
Cold foggy haze
She turns to him
He looks away
They both know
They can't stay
this way
It won't be said
The words lingering in their minds
They knew what they'd had was special
They knew they'd never find what they
had again.
She turns to leave
He grabs her, leans
in as if to kiss her
Misery in her he can see,
vaguely covered memories
convert into nostalgia
He remembers the better
forgets all the worse
and knows, right then,
that he's going to miss her
She sees the same in him
looks up, moves in,
close, as if to want him
But
she knows its done
The time has come
to say goodbye and walk away,
she took one step forward, long before,
she's taking two steps back, today
He looks back before she goes,
to say, baby I know,
it hurts, it'll all be ok,
my last promise
shocked, to find shes
left him far behind,
on his own, deeply hurting.
His expression mad, inside he's sad
It will all soon fade.
He'll make it through,
because he knows if
their love had been true,
she never would
have turned, and
walked away
