For Casey
We laugh and we smile
And we clap when we
Reach the top of the
Tree climb
And giggle about the
Cute counselors we all know
She would have loved,
And throw shaving cream
At each other like no more hair
Must be removed
But inside we're crying,
Breaking apart.
Because two more are gone
Before their 18th birthday
And is all this a lie
To ourselves?
Just a waiting place?
A way of passing the time
Before we, too,
Have surrendered to our fate?
