Principles of Unerring Fate
He ran away, under the cover of dusk,
a dark brown cape fluttering, picking up slack
he left her there, waving a bright silver kerchief out the window,
knowing she will never see him again
Digging through the deepest chest of memories,
she uncovers a yellowed love note, wrinkled at the edges,
written by him, promising to never leave
looking out her window, wondering why he left
Pouring tea for two, only to discover that no one will join her,
she sits and talks to the spirits of friends long past,
reconnecting with the memories that were lost in the cosmos of her head
sipping her tea and laughing into the dark
Alone,
staring into the infinite void of a pale mirror,
seeing a shadow of age cross her form,
and knows those days are gone
