Summer
Two lives ended in three weeks' time;
You snatched them 'way from me,
You wretched murderer,
Horrid thief!
Through sunny days and storm-filled nights,
Through blue skies and through gray,
I suppose I've made it through.
You released me from the prison cell,
That I with chains was bound to,
Yet I may not need them upon my return,
For I find myself desirous
Of returning to that cell,
Relaxed, refreshed, and
Ready to go,
For I feel it will expand this time,
Into a homey room.
But t'ward you, my bloodthirsty savior,
My feelings are bittersweet,
For I danced in your courtyards,
But the guards have caught up,
So 'til next year we part,
"Sweet" summer of mine.
