The Darkness and Light of Forever Closed Eyes
The sound of laughter
The feel of my mother’s touch
A warm embrace telling me everything will be okay
Are all things that show me happiness and love
Hot tears rolling down my cheeks
Hushed voices and closed doors
And also shouts as if I can’t hear
Are all signs of sadness and despair
These things might be different than what the average person looks for
They might think of the sight of their family
A Get Well Card with bright colors and balloons from a friend
Or the memory of their grandfather’s face as he bit into an Oreo cookie
And looking down at your best friend’s grandmother’s embalmed face
While offering whatever support you can
Both extremes can be experienced in different ways
Though my experiences are perhaps different than the average persons’
They’re still something worth experiencing
