Good Luck Charm
I imagined him
Sitting up there in heaven
Shuffling a deck of cards
Playing the game he once loved on earth
As he slowly dealt out the cards
His gaze fell on me
Clutching his picture to my chest
Silent tears rolling down my cheek
“I love you,” he heard me say.
He smiled, “ I love you too,” he whispered
Knowing that even though I couldn’t hear him
I knew the reply deep within my heart
He watched as slowly I relaxed
And curled up to go to sleep
He knew I was comforted just
Knowing that he was at peace in heaven
He chuckled as I pictured what it was like
And then watched me dream
Remembering the little girl
He once held in his arms
His good luck charm,
His granddaughter
