Lost Necklace
A silver puddle on the slick asphalt as the rain pounds,
A gem like the eyes of the owner,
Expressing, both of them,
A thousand stories all at once in a language I can’t read
And never will
I’ll never know what happened
to the necklace or the girl with the big blue eyes
The language is dead
So is the girl
The necklace waits futilely
for someone to make it beautiful again
The clasp broke at the same time the car went out of control
and the necklace lies forsaken on the asphalt
as the world cries for another life lost
I’ll never know what stories are contained in one pendant
I’ll never know what would have happened to the girl with the big blue eyes
She lived in a language no one can read
And no one ever will
Now that she is gone.
