Free By Wind
I swear...
The water and wind
Hated
Me...
My sail was being thrashed.
By an invisible force.
It was taken over.
I had
no
Control
The water,
Rolling and foaming
Like a rabid animal
Two foot waves crashing
And thrashing
Right into my board.
I
could
not
stand
I was furious...
I tried to channel my anger
Into
Any recognizable
Sailing position.
Nothing
Was
Working!
Finally!
A break,
As a gust rolls over.
No pounding waves.... Calm
I did not even try
To water start.
All that crossed my mind was to stand up, and
Free by Wind
Sail.
Sand up and
Be free.
As I jumped up,
I snatched the up-haul
Worked to pull my sail out of the water.
Pulling
pulling
pulling
All of a sudden the sail snaps out of the water and
Is inches,
Only inches
From my hand.
I latched on to the boom
Never to let it go.
I sheeted in,
The wind caught...
And
I
WAS
SAILING!
My dad,
On the shore cheering.
My most memorable moments.
I was free
I was happy.
I
was
alive.
