Third Floor Wing
I sat in the waiting room,
And time would not pass.
The phone would not ring,
And the outdated “Home Living” magazine would not read itself.
Each person came in and stared at the floor.
The waiting room stood still
Just like the time.
I realize:
The hospital will never be a happy place
No matter how many colorful signs are on the walls.
Leave the walls white;
The color of everyone’s faces here.
Leave the gowns grey;
Like our nightmares of death.
And please for the sake of anything,
Leave the windows closed;
The outside world is nothing to us
If we can’t be in it.
