The Girl
She’s the girl,
Standing far from the crowd
The one that wants some attention,
But not all of it.
Book smarts come easily to her.
Now street smarts…
Can we say that she won’t be able to survive alone in a New York City alleyway?
She’s not rich,
And doesn’t care to be so.
She’s not the one that you think of when you hear the word actress,
But if you knew what goes on behind that mask she wears,
The dam that she’s built just might break.
For all she wants is to be understood.
She believes that her whole world was shattered years ago,
And there’s no way to ever put the pieces back together.
You see this girl everyday,
Sometimes trying to hide a goofy little smile,
But mostly she’s wearing her mask with a gloomy look.
A sad, blank stare
Lips in a straight line
There’s little colour to be found in her cheeks.
Do you know who she is?
Probably not.
Some people know her story,
But others are just characters in it.
She has only a couple of close friends,
‘Cause all the others just don’t care anymore.
Every day she plays scenes in her head that she wishes could happen,
But because she’s thought them up…
They can never come true.
Maybe it’s just something that she does to keep herself stuck in her predicament,
Or maybe it’s just the way things are supposed to be.
She doesn’t know.
It might look like she fits in perfectly,
But she believes that she is a puzzle piece being put into the wrong jig-saw puzzle.
Try to get close to her,
She might let you in.
Or she might give a tense chuckle and turn on her heels and walk away…
So choose your words carefully and make sure you’re sincere.
She’s been hurt so many times,
If she trusts someone to then find out that they were playing her.
Her heart just might crack its last crack.
No she’s not Humpty Dumpty,
But she’s not some indestructible superhero either.
She won’t show the pain on the outside for long,
‘Cause she’s better when she buries it all deep down inside.
I dare you to try to find her.
It’ll be harder than it seems.
You just might be surprised on who you find.
One hint:
Looks are just there to fool you.
It’s what is inside that counts.
