“A Race to Success”

The triathlete
Hunches forward with his stiff arms
Furiously whipping back and forth
Stepping lightly and rhythmically
Along the dusty, concrete road
Cars whizzing by
Blurring his vision
A graceful, majestic eagle
Soaring through the fresh, crisp air
As the sun is swallowed by blackness
Determination etched on his face
Perspiration stained to his skin
As he crosses the finish line

The author's comments:
This piece was inspired when I was volunteering at the Silverman Triathlon.
