Family Dinners
It all begins with a fight;
clearly the family is home.
As the table is set,
words are thrown,
sharp as the knives set down.
As time whittles away,
tensions begin to rise.
One single yell,
a catalyst of a chain reaction.
Who is preparing the meal,
who is entertaining the guests,
and who is watching the dog?!
Just as the oven burns a searing red,
so do tempers of the house.
A spark of hope,
one chance to bring tranquility,
lies not in a person,
but that single chocolate cake
baked by the stepfather of the house.
Dessert is served
and the cool frosted icing
soothes the fury of the night.
One single agreeable thing,
the Hungarian chocolate cake.
