It's Veteran's Day
When I see him, I know he’s
one—I mean he’s
wearing an
army suit
pinned
with all sorts
of multi-colored
badges, so he has to be legit
Eyes now connect
I think, Aw man, now I have to
say something—
I appreciate it
Thank you
It’s tough
huh—
anything to
acknowledge
the past service
only he can bring back to life
Eyes then part
With slow hesitant steps
I smile, open
my mouth,
and
walk
silently up
the train platform as a
harsh cold wind blows us apart
