Freedom Time
I've been hiding from you, because I've been programmed to fear you.
Told that shady looks and acts be unto me, if I chose to get near you.
Told that it was supposed to be,
Man and woman naturally,
So I, subconsciously, accepted that life for me.
Ran from you when I discovered what you were.
Though I never really knew you, I just knew you weren't a 'her'.
So, I kept myself wrapped miserably,
In hopes of finding love in society,
Because they don't appreciate variety,
But tell me, where is love in anxiety?
Though each of us were manifested unique,
We begin to conform with each hurtful critique-
On how they think our lives should be-
So...while society gained power, I became weak.
And grew up, not knowing, but already hating...me.
But aren't we all human? No one above any?
See, I forgot that fact along the way:
Trying to maintain the cowardice it took to conform each day.
Causing myself nothing, but pure pain,
But today is the day I choose freedom again.
