A Poem for Jake
Christmas lights are gone
We have candles instead,
To honor and pray,
To mourn for a friend,
To light the path,
A route to above,
To which this angel will fly
With the strength of our love.
To lighten his spirit,
Bring warmth to his soul
On his journey to heaven
Through winter’s cold.
But God, it’s too dark
For a white Christmas this year.
The memory of Jake
Will never leave here.
I don’t know why you took him, Lord,
I don’t know what to believe.
His life has been stolen
By the hands of a thief.
They have wrapped him, a present,
Expect him Christmas Eve.
God, I know for a fact,
He’s the best gift you’ll ever receive.
