Lost in the night
I hear the distant yells,
surrounding me.
Whispers of memories flit across my
mind.
Long nights, dark rooms.
Where are you?
Why am I alone again?
A baby wailing,
reaching out for the mother
who has slipped away.
The darkness swallowing her.
The loneliness too much to bear.
Where are you?
Why am I alone again?
Such a disappointment.
Another lie, another slip of the tongue.
Lights off, the TV dim.
She left, go back to sleep.
Hush baby, everything will
look better in the morning.
