A Letter to My Heart
My dearest heart,
Why must you be so fragile?
So weak and readily forgiving.
So willingly given away,
Yet so easily broken.
Why must you be so strong?
So adamant about my feelings,
So stubborn and uncontrollable,
Yet constantly faltering.
Why must you be a reminder of my past?
So strong a hold on what I would like to simply forget,
So much of an obstacle when I try to move on,
Yet deep down I am glad I can remember.
Why must you beat so rapidly in his presence?
So unique a feeling that I know is love,
So familiar a feeling that I never want to lose,
Yet so heartbreaking a sensation since he is no longer mine.
Why must you do this me?
So many times you have gotten in the way,
So many times you have caused me to feel pain,
Yet all of these times you have made me stronger.
And for that, I thank you.
Sincerely,
A teenage girl
