On the Clock
Precious digits
so small.
Are too powerful
Too commanding
And great
They have that voice
So strong and fearful
And direct and low
That tone that causes
Tsunamis to rise
Pillars to fall
With such control,
They build fences
Tall and mighty
Of sticks and bones
Barriers like jails
With freedom
That never rests
On the outside
And as much as we try
And we try
We never escape
The costs
Of such formidable
But faithful
Beautiful crime.
