No One Paid Attention
Praying, hoping with wide, hopeful eyes,
“Maybe someone will take pity on me today,”
His stomach rumbled slightly, yet no one paid attention.
Dreaming of a place to stay, a shelter, a home,
Instead, they gave him scowls and upturned noses.
His stomach growled, yet no one paid attention.
He was a worthless weed in a meadow of roses,
Seemingly beautiful, their thorns pricked at his soul,
His stomach roared, yet no one paid attention.
Until, one day,
His stomach was no more, he was no more.
Yet, still, no one paid attention.
