Off the Path
A secret
To stumble upon
Like a five-dollar bill
In a secondhand coat
From lengths of wood
This cabin is made
And yet these captured trees hide from the gaze
Of their still leafy brothers
And try to fade into this forest
Sitting on a foundation
Of strewn together rocks
Of all shapes and sizes
As if one or two
May become unlatched
Roll down the red and brown slope
And be free in the forest
Once again
A secret
The passerby stops to smile at
Ponders
And leaves again
Like a poem in graffiti
Written on an overpass wall
