Seven flights.
She smiles her beautiful vibrant smile,
While holding her boyfriend’s hand.
They walk down the crowded hallway,
Everyone begins to stare.
Wishing they were in her shoes.
Getting in his car to go home,
He drops her off at the corner like always.
She walks, until he turns the corner,
No longer seeing his car.
She turns around to walk towards,
Her neighborhood.
Trudging up Seven Flights of steps,
Turning down her dark hallway,
Her stomach turns, flipping upside down and inside out.
She knows what she’s about to walk into,
But only her, no one else knows.
No one knows what she really does at night,
When she’s all alone.
Laying on her mattress on the dirty floor.
Her three little brothers and two younger sisters,
Sleep beside her.
She kisses each forehead,
Never knowing what will wake her this night.
