the girl i used to be

living right under the surface
is the girl i used to be
she’s caged in by the silence
through which no one can see
she looks out through my eyes
but no one ever looks back
maybe if i let her out
I’d get back the things i lack
what i miss most
from when she was my life
is the smile that has now faded
into hideous strife
