Silence
I watch you wear your silence like a super-hero's cape
Making you stronger, wiser, better
Even though it doesn't.
It doesn't hide you, either,
Your identity is just the same,
And I can read your
Face like a book, and I hear your
Heart like a song, playing in the back
Of my mind when you refuse to meet my eyes.
And I wonder why your silence is painted
Red and yellow when it's dyed me black and blue
And I wonder if you'd answer if I asked and I
Close my eyes and turn away and remember that this time
Last year I wouldn't even have to question.
