This Lullaby

You took me by surprise
with your glass marble eyes.
curly-cue tendrils and chubby dough fingers,
blueberry kisses from red raspberry lips,
sugar diamond tears for all of your fears,
mashed peas and carrots, and apple dumpling cheeks,
sweet baby’s breath whispers
and beddy-bye whimpers
tickle my sticky peach ears.
cuddly kiss and tinkle-bell hiccups,
even your squinty-eyed tortoise
green gummy bear smile
just melts my widdle Play-Do heart.
