California Drive
Soft music plays in the background
As I stare out the car window
The road flies by
One mile after another falling behind us
I smell the strong, salty scent
Spraying into the air
As waves go crashing down
On the quickly passing beaches
Rocks grope out of the waves
Dark anchors on the sea
Standing strong as mountain after mountain
Of salt water crash against them
Their moans are carried on the wind
Fog hugs the ocean
Its dewy, dam fingers
Longingly caressing the sand
And clinging to any beach wanderer
The melancholy cry of gulls penetrate the air
A lonely, wavering note
Carried on the cool breeze
As they skim the water’s top
I close my eyes
as I stand atop a jagged cliff
I feel the pound of the waves
Deep in my soul
In sync with the wind through my hair
Car lights catch my eyes
And I’m torn from my dreaming
I stare out the window again
Visions of the sea fading quickly
As the road beneath me stretches on
