Ode to Football
You, high school football games,
Have stolen my heart;
And those of plenty others, I'm sure.
With your bright lights,
Exposing everything.
The scent of nachos and chili dogs,
Almost suffocating.
The imminent threat of danger, and excitement,
While hundreds watch from the stands each Thursday and Friday night,
Cheering with the cheerleaders,
Jamming with the band,
Or those select few truly watching the field.
You inspire us to persevere
In the face of opposition,
To ban cocky attitudes from the sidelines,
Disregard win/loss ratios,
And just have fun.
